Hello everyone,
Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Steve Backus and I have recently moved to Ocala Florida from the Atlanta area. In 2021 God began working in my heart to relocate to Florida, at that time I was a bi-vocational pastor and working in Pest Control. For over 25 years I have served the Lord in ministry, about ten years in the Prison ministry and just under ten years in pastoral ministry, and international ministry. Pastoral ministry and evangelism have always been my passion and I believe God has been working in my wife and I to invest our lives in outreach ministry.
I am a graduate of Liberty University with a Bachelor Science degree in Biblical Studies and a master’s degree in theology. Although I have been a student in the academic world, I am a lifelong student of God’s word, seeking to learn every day to stay afresh for God’s people and believe wholeheartedly that we must trust the power and presence of the Holy Spirit to succeed in the ministry.
So how did we find ourselves here at Sonshine Ministries Church? Since moving here and working in Pest Control, we have been praying and seeking the Lord on where to go next. As a former pastor my heart is burdened for the local church, and it has been my desire to serve the Lord in pastoral ministry as well as preaching. Although I do enjoy preaching God’s word, I have also desire to shepherd God’s people. My wife and I sense a strong need for community and healing in the body of Christ. We started our own business several months ago, attempting to get it going, but while seeking this route an opportunity was presented by a phone call from a leader at Sonshine Ministries Church. How the Lord moves is absolutely amazing! The name of our business is Sonshine Delivery, and when I received that call concerning an opportunity to preach one Sunday morning at a church who was seeking God’s will for a pastor, it just so happened that the name of the church also had the name Sonshine. God does work in strange and mysterious ways, and this is one of the confirmations that God has led us together. Therefore, it is our desire that the Son of God shine in all of us and through this work, so that the light of Christ may manifest in Belleview and beyond.

We have always had a small food pantry to help families with food and sometimes pay bills or even just a tank of gas for someone with a need. The more we help our community the more God gives us to help. We now are capable of helping so many people with food each week with our food ministry called Manna Food Blessings. It's a program that gives out food on Thursday mornings beginning at 9 until it's all gone. It's free wholesome boxes of food to all who come. There is a drive-through system, sometimes we serve a lunch along with the food boxes.

Our goal is to reach as many people as possible, sharing God's word & growing His Kingdom, while awaiting His return. Each week sermons are recorded in case you can't be with us in person. However, when possible, please come join us here, as there is nothing like gathering inside the LORD's house.

gone but not forgotten

It is with deepest regret that I inform you our beloved friend & brother-in-Christ, Pastor Sandy Kemp, has went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Nov. 17, 2023. Our sweet secretary & sister-in-Christ, Jeannie Brewer left us for her heavenly home on Oct. 24, 2023. Jeannie's husband, our friend & brother-in-Christ associate pastor Ray Brewer left us on Dec. 22, 2023. They were all three with our church from it's beginning and will be deeply missed by all who knew & loved them. Our church knows for these 3 to be absent from the body is to be in the presence of our LORD, we will see them again, will you? Do you know our Lord & Saviour?
